In July 2010, after his third trial for the same offense, Mel Broughton was convicted of conspiracy to commit arson and sentenced to 10 years in prison.
He will receive credit for the two-and-a-half years he has already served behind bars. Prior to his arrest, Mel was a leading campaigner against construction of an animal research facility at Oxford University.
