In an ALF attack (see communique below), fire seriously damaged electricity generators and offices at a primate breeding facility (half owned by Covance) in the Camarles region of Spain. Shortly after the action, it was announced that the farm is to be closed by the government after it failed in its latest application for a building permit. The farm was set to become Europe's largest factory supplying monkeys for experimentation. Covance has been desperately trying to make the farm work for several years after attempts to build one in France failed. The closure is a serious blow to Covance's ability to obtain primates for its vivisection labs.

The facility was the subject of a NAVS (National Anti-Vivisection Society) investigation in 2004, which can be read about at http://www.navs.org.uk/news/campaigns/monkey_dealer.htm.

Received by activists in Spain:
"Now a days many of you will probably have heard the new that the night from monday 23 to tuesday 24 of may an arson took place in the facilities of the farm wich is destined to breed apes in the region of Tarragona (particulary camarles area).

In the following text we want to explain why the incendiary attack against this animal 'Guantanamo' took place.

As other 'comrades' that have fought against the farm have comdemned the raid because of its violent component, we want to make clear that this should be understand as a prove of the most absolute rejection that we feel against violence, the violence that labs practice against animals. They perform the most wrecker way of violence that you are saying you are against.

They spite the mothers from their offspring and both from their common mother, mother earth where they were born. They are transported to another region very far away and different from their natural habitat, and from there, make a final trip to that hell called laboratories. That is the violence taken to its more pure essence.

A few days ago it could be seen on the net what really takes place behind the laboratories doors, this time the undercover investigation took place in Covance Laboratories, which are the owners of camarles monkey farm. An eleven months investigation in the toxicology department of Covance USA showed a video and loads of pictures of the atrocities that were taking place. You can see: http://www.covancecruelty.com.

After watching these videos we spread tears of love because of our brother animals, fire tears that through purifiying flames tried to finish with the generators (oil motors), with the offices (documents, legal documents) and cause the maximum economic damage to the facilities.

It was not possible to rescue a single ape, but that doesn't mean they are not in our hearts.

It is funny to know that you have said that the macaques didn't show any kind of problem, but it was likely that the flames stressed them. If they shouted we are sure that they were screams of freedom, their Destiny is what really stress them.

Camarles farm is waiting for a resolution that will decide if the Generalitat (Catalan Goberment) will definitely give the license so it can continue its activity, and be alowed to fill the facilities, in where there are actually 298 apes, but which can shed approximately 3000 macaques.

We hope it concludes in a negative way for the farm, if this does not happen we will have to return and express our dissatisfaction in a similar way as the previous one.
