anonymous communique received by activists in Italy:

"15-02-2006 Sabbioncello - Ferrara

After less than one year the Zanella Mario fur farm has been attacked
again to force its definitive closure.

The last liberation had given hope to and freed from imprisonment about
600 animals. [The ALF first raided the Zanella Mario fur farm on April 7, 2005.]

After that the farmer has begun his activity yet again, but attacking
him in this moment could bring our project to its end, as it has been
and will be for many more prison camps visited by the A.L.F.

The action has been more difficult than we thought, since an alarm on
the fences prevented cutting them. A lot of cages tied to the fence
were one more deterrent to try and stop us. But imagination is on the
side of the brave ones, so we thought to build some wooden platforms
with metallic fence on it, in order to softly low them on the fence and
build a way for the minks to get out.

Once we had scaled the fence, making sure we didn't trigger any alarm,
we found out that all the babies had already been killed, and only 3
out of the 6 sheds were full of breeders. These cages had been closed
with wire that made it impossible to open them. This was not present
during our reconnaissance. With the time we had we managed to destroy
the wire and open the cages at all the animals in one and half sheds,
liberating approximately 250 animals. We took away with us the nets
that would be used to catch them and putting a lot of food out of the
fence and pushing the animals we managed to lead them out in the fields.
This is what could be done. It is something that anybody wishing to be
freed and free others from oppression can feel able to do, without a
big number of people and big amounts of money. At the beginning we had
thought to take breeders and pups one by one and move them out of the
fence, out of this place where they had been bred to be punched and
then letally gassed. When we found out, in our first attempt, that in this way it was impossibile to save a big number, because of the reaction the animals
had out of terror, we opted for the other solution.

We understood that the ability of the farmer to handle them while he
kills them comes more form his brutality than his experience, and also
from his victims being tired from days and days without food.
The sequel of raids against the fur industry goes on. We will be at it
until the sadist killers will cage the last living being. They can't
imagine how strong is our determination; the spirit moving us is the
same that moved Bill Rodgers to fight a life and die in prison with his
head high, when it seems that he decided to come back to the Earth
seeking a peace that is not given to us here.

We express our heartfelt solidarity to Saverio, Salvatore, Marina and
Cristian* and to all the others punished by the State for their strong
opposition to the immigrant detention centres.

United in the desire of a world without cages."

*Note: Saverio, Salvatore, Marina and Cristian are four vegetarian anarchists who have been part of a concerted campaign to close down an infamous immigrant detention centre in the south of Italy. They were arrested in May 2005; Saverio and Salvatore are still in prison.
